How to Pick a Colour Palette for Your Next Website

As a minimalist designer, I often do my layouts completely in grayscale and then consider colour options later. However, picking colours can be one of the most difficult, important and fun parts of coming up with a new design. There is a surprising amount of colour theory involved in branding. Here's a good overview of colour meanings and psychology.

Red is courageous and aggressive, blue is peaceful and trustworthy, and yellow is uplifting and illuminating. It's important to align your colour choices with the brand you're designing for. Colours convey a message at a subconscious level and contribute a great deal to your storytelling efforts.

With that said, there are some really cool (and free) tools available that I use to assist in my colour selection that I want to share with you:
